Hi!
My name is Allana McKinnon, FDN-P
I was born allergic to every food on the planet. My mom could only eat 5 foods to be able to breastfeed me. Before age 2, I was given at least 6 rounds of antibiotics. I had terrible, oozing eczema on my hands and face. By 1 year of age, I had developed asthma and by age 2, had almost died numerous times. I spent most of age 3 hospitalized at National Jewish, where many of the other kids were dying. Doctors told my mom I'd live in a bubble for the rest of my life.
Needless to say, my childhood was tenuous and full of medical traumas. I felt fragile, sick and scared much of the time. This continued much of my childhood, teens and early adulthood. I did eventually get better and was able to eat many foods, but I was never well.
Fast forward to my late 30's. I had two daughters, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, was eating gluten-free, but not better. I dropped weight down to 90 lbs. I was exhausted, in constant pain, had daily headaches, and was so bloated and gassy I didn't leave the house much. Additionally, I had terrible insomnia and I was a shell of a human.
On top of all of this, I had multiple chemical sensitivity and a brain injury from mold. I had terrible anxiety, rashes, random swelling, was hyper-sensitive to everything (people, smells, stress) and could barely form a sentence, I was so brain-fogged. I was terrified to get older and I wasn't even 40!
This is when I found Functional Medicine. It was like this massive lightbulb going off.
Everything made so much sense!
I took drastic measures to get better: I ate Autoimmune Paleo, addressed H pylori and other gut infections (plus SIBO), used special spore-based probiotics, cleaned up the mold in my home, focused my food on prebiotic fibers (functional fibers), and got to work healing my nervous system.
I have been studying the gut microbiome and its integral relationship to the functioning of the entire body for over a decade. After reviewing hundreds of stool tests, I see a massive trend toward a LACK OF BENEFICIAL BACTERIA in 9 out of 10 of my clients.
What does this mean?
If you use antimicrobial herbs with someone who is depleted and lacking keystone species, YOU ARE MAKING THE PROBLEM WORSE! It is like burning the last couple weeds in a barren field.
There is no one size fits all for healing. Every person is unique. I am here to provide the foundation for healing your whole body by removing negative factors that kill your bacteria, feeding the good bacteria, teaching you how to eat the right foods, optimizing digestion, detoxifying your lifestyle, training your nervous system toward calm and rebuilding your gut structures and barrier function.
I've helped hundreds of clients resolve their gut pain and symptoms, without going on extreme, restrictive diets, taking handfuls of supplements and running every Functional Medicine Test.
With my extreme history, if I can heal, so can you!
I spent years feeling like I was being betrayed by my body. Now I TRUST my body's ability to heal. I'm here to help you find the same TRUST.

Certifications, Training and Experience
My own life and experience have been invaluable teachers that I believe give me a unique perspective on the human body, plus give me the understanding and compassion to truly know how to help my clients heal. In addition, I've studied the human body and especially, the gut microbiome extensively.
